DR. DELEEUW: Liposuction is a procedure that's been done in the United States since around 1982. Subcutaneous fat is sculpted using a canula which is a hollow tube which goes under the skin and sucks out some of the fat. Then the skin, which is elastic can shrink and conform to the new base that's been made for it. So some of those lumps, and bumps, and so forth that people have that they could never get rid of are amenable to treatment with liposuction.
All of plastic surgery is about the patient’s body image. How they see themselves and how they feel about themselves. When a lady come to see me and she's got two big lumps of fat in the saddlebag area as we kind of ungloriously call it, and I suck those out for her, she's thrilled 'cause she's got a new figure and this thing that was bothering her all of her life is gone. And it won't come back.
